This full renovation by Quinn Architects and Modern Works of a 4th floor Type 20 flat called for a sensitive refurbishment with modern introductions to sit alongside the building's original features. The overall design brief was to be as close to the original fit-out as possible; key elements of the apartment's existing fabric were retained.

Extended lease.

The kitchen design is an evolution of the original Barbican galley kitchen, with each new element a bespoke piece. Gaggenau and Siemens appliances are integrated and a Quooker tap offers instant boiling & filtered water. The doors and cupboards all have recessed handles, as well as lacquered doors and a stainless-steel countertop with integrated LED lighting.



The same materiality continues throughout the apartment. New sliding doors with recessed handles slide across to partition the living area and studio, creating a flexible space. Full-height windows and sliding door lead to a wide south facing balcony.



The hallway leads into a spacious main bedroom. Full-height and full-width glazing highlight the uninterrupted views of the water gardens. Bespoke wardrobes, oak interiors, and LED lighting.



The original Barbican sinks were retained in the bathroom and WC. Vola and Gessi controls were added to modernise the hardware. Oak flooring and restored iroko door & window frames offer warm textures whilst large format porcelain surfaces in the kitchen, bathroom, and WC provide a clean and minimal feel.

Within walking distance of Moorgate, Barbican, Farringdon and St.Pauls underground stations with access to the Elizabeth line, Central, Circle and Hammersmith & City lines.
