The Barbican Turns 50

2019 will be a year of celebrating the brutalist brilliance that is the Barbican. It is the year that the Estate turns 50.

Back in 1969 this ground-breaking style of living was heralded as being ‘a concept for bringing life back to the heart of a city’. It was a hub to draw people back from the suburbs and into the City, which in the post-war years had been focused on becoming the financial centre of the world. Back in 1957, the Guildhall approved plans for the Estate that spoke of a residential neighbourhood that would allow people ‘to live a full life with purpose and with pleasure.’ Fast forward to 2019 and it’s plain to see that the Barbican Estate continues to live up to that and more.

Our Frank Harris Long Lane team is passionate about the Barbican Estate. We will be joining in the celebrations throughout 2019 and will be sharing fascinating facts, information and ‘did you know?’ details with you in the coming months.
